Panthers down Colby-Sawyer to stop skid
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's soccer team broke a four-game losing streak Thursday, shutting out the Chargers of Colby Sawyer College, 1-0, at Panther Field.
Senior Sandra Petlick (New Castle, NH) scored an unassisted goal with 25 minutes remaining in regulation for the only goal of the game.
The Panthers missed several opportunities in the first half as Petlick broke in on a number of occasions but came up empty. Late in the half she broke by the Colby Sawyer defense and clanked one off the post.
It appeared the jinx was going to bite the Panthers again as several breakaway opportunities kept coming up short. Then with 25 minutes to go in regulation Petlick finished one of her several chances as she broke past the Charger defense and chipped the ball over sophomore keeper Euginnia Manseau (Henniker, NH).
Freshman goalie Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, VT) made three saves to record her second shutout for PSC, while Manseau had eight saves for CSC to keep the game close.
PSC returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when it hosts Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). Colby Sawyer will next host Saint Joseph's Sunday (Oct. 20th) at 12 noon.
