Western Conn. holds off PSC
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's soccer team lost to Western Connecticut State University Saturday, 2-0, in a Little East Conference match at Panther Field.
WCSU, which is ranked seventh in New England, improves to 11-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in LEC play, while the Panthers fall to 3-9-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference.
Sophomore Christie Gills (Naugatuck, CT) had a goal and an assist to lead Western Connecticut to victory.
The first half, which was controlled more by the Panthers, saw Western Connecticut score first when freshman Nicole Corbin (Clinton, CT) converted a nice cross from Gills in the 31st minute.
The second half was back and forth with both sides having scoring opportunities, but Gills scored off a rebound in front of the net with nine minutes remaining in regulation to clinch the win.
Freshman goalie Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, VT) made six saves for the Panthers, while junior keeper Kristen Bartholomew (Bethel, CT) stopped six shots to record her LEC-leading seventh shutout of the season.
PSC returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 22) when it hosts LEC foe Southern Maine (4:00 p.m.). Western Connecticut will next play at Rhode Island College Tuesday (Oct. 22nd) at 3:30 p.m.
