PSU Women’s Soccer improves to 3-0-0

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University improved its women's soccer season record to 3-0-0 Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 non-conference whitewash of St. Joseph's College (Maine) at Panther Field.

PSU got goals from two freshmen and a sophomore while outshooting the Monks 15-2. Plymouth State is off to its best start since the 1997 team captured its first six contests. St. Joseph's drops to 0-4-0.

Freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) put PSU on the board just 10 minutes into the contest, converting a cross from classmate Kelsey McBride (Brookline, N.H.). The Panthers added two more goals about two minutes apart midway through the second half. Freshman Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.) knocked one off the Monks goalie for her team-leading third goal of the season, and sophomore Alicia Tefft (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in with her first of the year with an assist from sophomore Melissa Erwin (Newington, Conn.).

Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) did the rest for PSU, making two saves to post her fourth career shutout. Junior keepers Shana Howard (Warren, Maine) and Cheryl Northrup (North Haven, Conn.) combined to make 13 saves for the Monks.

Plymouth State looks to keep its winning streak going Wednesday with another non-conference encounter at Bridgewater State (3:30 p.m.). St. Joseph's plays again Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Thomas College (Maine).
