PSU Women’s Soccer edges Worcester State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Cathy Berei (Trenton, N.J.) scored the only goal of the game with just over 12 minutes remaining on the second half clock, leading Plymouth State University's women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Worcester State College Tuesday afternoon at Panther Field.

The outcome gives PSU a 6-1-1 record on the season, while Worcester State drops to 4-3-0. It is also Plymouth State's second straight shutout victory, and the fifth in eight games this fall.

There were only seven shots on goal the entire game, six by the hosts. Berei broke the scoreless string with a shot from the top of the box that went over the goalkeeper's head at the 78:25 mark, Berei's first goal this season and the fifth of her career.

The Panther defense limited the Lancers to just one shot on goal, which was saved by sophomore keeper Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.). PSU has allowed only four goals this season. WSC freshman keeper Kim Massa (Westford, Mass.) made five stops for the Lancers.

Plymouth State is back in action Thursday with a non-conference game at Colby-Sawyer (4 p.m.). WSC plays again Saturday against Anna Maria College (12:00 p.m.).
