Eastern Conn. downs PSU Women’s Soccer

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Jen Ferrari (Coventry, R.I.), the leading scorer in the Little East Conference, scored the only goal of the game on a first-half penalty kick Saturday afternoon as Eastern Connecticut State University registered a 1-0 victory over Plymouth State University in an LEC women's soccer contest at Panther Field.

Ferrari, who was knocked down in the penalty box with 10:17 on the first-half clock, was awarded the penalty kick.  She converted the goal to improve her season totals to nine goals and seven assists.

The Warriors, ranked third in New England and 20th in the Division III national poll, improve to 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Little East, while PSU drops to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

Eastern Conn. finished with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, but neither team was able to score the rest of the way.  PSU junior Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) finished with five saves in a tough-luck loss.  Junior Allison Sumecki (Northford, Conn.) played the first half in the Eastern net and did not need to make a save, and freshman Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) came on for the second half and made two saves.

PSU is back in action Tuesday with a non-conference tilt at Salem State (6:00 p.m.), while Eastern Connecticut returns home to host Connecticut College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
