Rhode Island College edges PSU Women’s Soccer

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, R.I.) broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half Saturday afternoon, giving Rhode Island College a 2-1 victory over Plymouth State University in the Little East Conference women's soccer regular season finale for both schools.

The Anchorwomen wrap up the regular season at 10-9-0 overall and 2-5-0 in conference play, while PSU finishes at 6-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the LEC. PSU finishes in the tie for fifth place in the conference (with UMass Dartmouth), and will be on the road Tuesday for the first round of the LEC Tournament, at either Southern Maine or Western Connecticut. RIC ended up in seventh place in the conference and misses the LEC Tournament.

The Anchorwomen got on the board first when senior Elena Sanborn (North Scituate, R.I.) tallied her second goal of the season in the 18th minute of the game. PSU answered with 10 minutes to go in the half as freshman Jamie Brown (Franklin, Mass.) notched her first career goal, tying the game at 1-1 at the intermission.

RIC had a 14-10 advantage in shots, and pulled out the win with Bileau's goal. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Carpenter (Woonsocket, R.I.) earned the win for the Anchorwomen with three saves, while PSU junior netminders Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) and Beth McAloon (Bedford, N.H.) combined to make nine saves.
