MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Middlebury College women's soccer team won its third straight game Tuesday afternoon on Dragone Field as the host Panthers earned a 6-0 shutout over the Panthers of Plymouth State University.
Middlebury freshman Ashley Pfaff (Charlotte, Vt.) was credited with her team-leading 10th goal of the season late in the first half as her shot deflected into the net off a defender. Junior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) almost answered for Plymouth State just 19 seconds later, but her rocket from 15 yards out deflected off the top cross bar and was cleared by the defense.
It was all Middlebury in the second half. Junior Erin Oliver (Essex Jct., Vt.) scored on a rebound at 49:34, while junior Caity Abshere (Madison, Wis.) made it a 3-0 game at 53:55 with a shot from the outside. Sophomore Caitlin Parker (Seattle, Wash.) converted a nice crossing pass from junior Erin O'Rourke (Sutton, Mass.) at 64:18, giving O'Rourke her third consecutive assist in the contest. Sophomore Carly Berger (Princeton, N.J.) and senior Annie Lloyd (Boise, Idaho) scored in the last eight minutes of the game to make it a 6-0 final.
Freshman Adele Plunkett (Austin, Texas) made nine saves in goal to earn her third shutout of the season, while senior Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) made nine saves for Plymouth State.
PSU, 3-8-1 overall, is back in action Sunday with a Little East Conference affair at Western Connecticut (12:00 p.m.), while Middlebury, 5-2-2, returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Williams in a key NESCAC match-up.
