Eastern Conn. nips PSU Womens Soccer in LEC match
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Andrea Gayeski (Colchester, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match less than two minutes into the second half Saturday afternoon, giving Eastern Connecticut State University a 1-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference women's soccer game at rainy Panther Field.
Eastern improves to 2-0-0 in conference play, 5-4-0 overall, while PSU falls to 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in LEC action.
The host Panthers controlled play in the first half, out-shooting the Warriors 8-2 but with nothing to show for it. It took only 1:25 into the second half, when Gayeski knocked home her first goal of the season, with an assist from senior Carrie Fleischer (Tolland, Conn.)
Eastern kept the Panthers at bay in the second half, along only one shot after the break and holding on for the shutout victory. Freshman Kim Church (Farmington, Conn.) made five saves for the Warriors in the first half and sophomore Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) stopped one shot in the second half as the two Eastern keepers shared the team shutout.
PSU freshman keeper Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, R.I.) played a solid game and finished with five saves but was saddled with the loss.
The Panthers have a non-conference home game this Tuesday against Colby-Sawyer (6:00 p.m.) Eastern returns home to host Bridgewater State on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.)
