PSU Women’s Soccer shuts out Rhode Island College

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Brittany Phelps (Bow, N.H.) scored her first career goal six minutes into the game Saturday afternoon, and that stood up as the game-winner as Plymouth State University defeated Rhode Island College, 1-0, in a Little East Conference women's soccer game at breezy Panther Field.

Phelps finished off a nice crossing pass from classmate Stacy DiSabato (Manchester, N.H.) for the winning goal at the 6:10 mark. PSU went on to double up the visitors in shots for the game, 8-4, but neither team could find the net the rest of the way.

PSU junior Ashley Riberdy (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) needed to make only three saves to earn her third shutout of the season. Sophomore Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, Conn.) made six saves for the Anchorwomen.

The Panthers, 5-7-2 overall and 2-4-0 in the LEC, conclude the regular season with two games this week - a non-conference affair Tuesday at home against Lyndon State (6:00 p.m.) and an LEC tilt Saturday at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.) The PSU-UMD clash will be for the sixth and final LEC play-off berth.

RIC, 12-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play, hosts Salem State on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) and travels to Eastern Connecticut for the regular season finale next Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
