PSU Women’s Soccer edges Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Plymouth State University came from behind with a pair of first half goals Tuesday afternoon, and the Panthers held on for a 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference women's soccer action.

Sophomore Lauren Lavery (Nashua, N.H.) assisted on both PSU goals, as the Panthers got back on the winning track and evened their overall record at 3-3-0. The Chargers dropped their fourth straight contest and slipped to 3-5-1 overall.

Sophomore Laura Sansoucie (Haverhill, Mass.) put Colby-Sawyer on the board first less than five minutes into the contest, but Lavery set up senior Georgia Rooney (Kent, Conn.) for the first Panther goal just 15 minutes later. PSU added the go-ahead score just before the half when Lavery hit freshman Rachel Kindl (Granby, Conn.), literally, sending the ball past Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.)

Colby-Sawyer would have its opportunities in the second half, taking nine shots on goal, but Plymouth State keeper Ashley Riberdy (Manchester, N.H.) collected nine of her 12 saves in the second half, as the Panthers held on for the victory.

Quirk made two saves in the loss for the Chargers, who out-shot the Panthers 16-7 in the loss.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday, as Colby-Sawyer hosts Eastern Nazarene for a 4 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up and Plymouth State hosts Fitchburg State in a non-conference make-up game at 5 p.m.
