PSU Women’s Soccer blanked by Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College scored five unanswered goals in the first half on its way to a 5-0 win over Plymouth State University Tuesday afternoon on Dragone Field. The shutout is the fifth of the season for Middlebury, which has allowed just eight goals in nine games. Plymouth State falls to 4-6 on the year.

Middlebury struck early as Ashley Pfaff scored on a crossing pass from Nora Tomlinson-Weintraub just 4:11 into the contest. Tomlinson-Weintraub scored a similar goal at 7:29, with a feed from Pfaff.

Carly Berger gave the home team a 3-0 lead at 12:31 as she scored on a header with a feed from Caitlin Parker. Pfaff scored her second of the game with 12:50 left in the half on a rebound, after a shot from Kirsten Lundquist deflected off the Plymouth keeper. Lindsay Walker scored the game's final goal just 4:16 later as she converted a crossing pass from Jenny Galgano.

Middlebury kept up the pressure in the second half, but Plymouth State's Ashley Riberdy (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) was solid in goal, making nine of her 16 saves in the second stanza.

PSU looks to get back on the winning track Thursday with a home game against Castleton State (5:00 p.m.).  Middlebury plays a key home game Saturday against Williams (12:00 p.m.)
