PSU Womens Soccer rolls past Green Mountain
Graham, Laliberte lead Panthers with two goals each
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Cassie Graham (Foster, R.I.) and junior Sam Laliberte (Concord, N.H.) scored two goals apiece Saturday evening as Plymouth State University blanked Green Mountain College, 6-0, in non-conference women’s soccer action at Panther Field.
PSU led 2-0 at halftime and scored three unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Freshman Carol Messler (Durham, N.H.) and junior Amy Green (Atkinson, N.H.) also scored one goal apiece for the Panthers, and senior Rebecca Wilson (Clinton, Conn.) contributed two assists. The sizeable lead allowed Plymouth State to give additional playing time to the younger players.
The Panthers controlled play most of the first half, out-shooting the Eagles by a 14-3 count, but it took more than 30 minutes to get on the scoreboard. Messler finally broke the ice, knocking a header into the lower left corner at 30:32. Laliberte then converted a shot across the box to the lower left side with three minutes to play in the half to give the Panthers a 2-0 margin at the break.
Graham tallied both her goals in a four-minute span early in the second half, both assisted by Wilson. Laliberte added her second goal of the game in the 64th minute on a breakaway, and Green finished off the scoring in the 76th minute.
PSU out-shot the visitors, 25-4, and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Eagles junior goalkeeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) had a busy day and finished with 10 saves. PSU starting goalie Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, N.H.) needed to make just one save in the first 69 minutes, and reserve Courtney Lins (Fremont, N.H.) went untested the rest of the way.
Plymouth State, 2-2, is home again on Tuesday, hosting Colby-Sawyer College at 4:30 p.m. Green Mountain returns home to host Potsdam State Monday at 3:30 p.m.
