Cabral, Pandiscio represent Panthers; Men receive Sportsmanship Award
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State
University soccer players were recognized by the Little East
Conference Tuesday with selections to the 2010 LEC All-Star Team,
and the Panther men’s squad was honored by being voted to
receive the LEC Team Sportsmanship Award.
Both PSU honorees are junior defenders for the Panthers, Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) for the men’s squad and Sarah Pandiscio (Simsbury, Conn.) for the women’s team, and both were named All-LEC Second Team. The Panther men, led by head coach Rob Wright, received the Sportsmanship Award, which is in its second year. The LEC post-season awards are selected by a vote of the Little East head coaches.
Cabral (right), who also played center midfield this
season, was a valuable contributor all over the field for
PSU. He provided athleticism and intensity to the defense
while contributing three goals and an assist to the offense, tying
for second on the team in scoring. A second-year co-captain,
he also provided leadership on a team that included 10 newcomers
and 15 international student-athletes.
Pandiscio (left), who moved to defense this season after
playing in the midfield the past two years, was a standout on the
Panther defense this fall. She played center back and helped
PSU limit opponent to just over two goals per game with five
shutouts. Pandiscio also got on the score sheet with an
assist in PSU’s win over Rhode Island College.
The PSU men’s squad finished the season with a 5-11-1 overall record, and tied for seventh in the LEC with a 1-6 mark. The Plymouth State women wrapped up with campaign with a 7-11 overall record, and tied for fifth in the LEC with a 2-5 ledger.
