PSU Women’s Soccer wears down Green Mountain
LaBroad posts shutout for Panthers
POULTNEY, Vt. – Plymouth State University knocked off Green Mountain College in women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon, 5-0, tallying three goals in the first half. PSU senior keeper Angelina LaBroad picked up her second victory and first shutout of the year saving two shots,
Plymouth State got on the board 15 minutes into the contest when senior Sammi Jo Saltalamachia scored on a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box. PSU tacked on another goal two minutes later when a cross deflected off a Green Mountain defender leading to an own goal and a 2-0 lead. The Panthers then put together a nice sequence with 15 minutes to play, ending with Cassie Graham touching a cross from Saltalamachia into the back of the net for the final goal of the half.
The Eagles showed stretches of solid defensive work in the second half, however Plymouth State was able to tack on two more goals in the final 15 minutes courtesy of sophomore Laura Davis, who twice found the top corner of the net from 25 yards out.
Keeper Emma Lord took the loss for Green Mountain, finishing with seven saves.
Plymouth State, 3-1, will open its Little East Conference season this Saturday at UMass Dartmouth. The Eagles, 0-1-1, will likewise open its conference slate Saturday at Johnson State College.
