Gordon nips Plymouth State Women’s Soccer

Panthers come up one goal short

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Caitlin Nedde scored the only goal of the game early in the second half Tuesday afternoon and Gordon College went on to defeat Plymouth State University, 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match at Panther Field.

Nedde collected a loose ball near the mouth of the PSU goal and knocked in her fourth goal of the season into the right side of the net.  The Panthers finished with10 shots and Gordon eight but that stood as the only goal of the contest.  Gordon improves to 7-6 overall, while PSU drops to 4-8.

PSU senior keeper Angelina LaBroad kept the Panthers in the game, finishing with three saves, including a nice stop on freshman Hannah Midwinter midway through the second half after Midwinter slipped through the Panther defense.

Sophomore keeper Kari Christensen made seven saves to record the shutout for Gordon.  The visitors also got solid play from defenders Rachel Ashley, Angela Munoz, Kristen Fisher and Liz Cheesman.

PSU's best chance to score came with 15 minutes remaining in the game when sophomore Laura Davis sent a ball into the box, but Christensen made a nice play to punch the ball away and preserve the shutout.

The Panthers play their next three games on the road, beginning Saturday at noon with a Little East Conference match at Western Connecticut State University.  Gordon returns home to host Wheelock College on Thursday in another non-conference contest.
