Women’s Soccer defeated by Worcester State
Bell scores to provide Panther highlight
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman Jackie Connors (Ashland, Mass.) all scored two goals each Monday evening, helping Worcester State University to an 8-1 triumph over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's soccer action at Coughlin Field.
Plymouth State found a hole in the Lancer defense in the 75th minute and broke the shutout on Emily Bell's (Derry, N.H.) third goal of the season. Freshman Paige Snyder (Lincoln, R.I.) assisted for the Panthers.
Gonet got the Lancers (6-6-1) on the board in the 12th minute when she took a feed from the left side of the box from Beckman, who would also finish the contest with two helpers. From the 21st minute on, the Blue and Gold scored four more times in a span of nine minutes.
Sophomore Alyssa Sawyer (West Springfield, Mass.) added her first tally of the season, followed by two markers by Beckman and then Gonet finished off the run with her ninth goal of the year for the 5-0 advantage at the intermission.
Connors netted her first collegiate marker in the 56th minute and then she chipped in her second goal six minutes later on a pass from classmate Kira Eleveld (Berlin, Conn.). Freshman Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, Mass.) tacked on the contest's final goal in the 88th minute.
Junior Hannah Kimball (Epping, N.H.), making her first career start, finished with six saves for the Panthers while her counterpart, freshman Mia Koutoulas (Marlboro, Mass.), ended her night with three stops for WSU.
The Lancers continue their schedule with a road game against Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday at 3:30. Plymouth State returns home to take on Rhode Island College Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Little East Conference action.
