PSU Women’s Soccer falls to Keene State in home opener
Panthers drop Little East debut to rival Owls
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.) headed in a goal in the 19th minute Saturday evening at Panther Field and that proved to be the game-winner as Keene State College defeated Plymouth State University, 3-0, in the Little East Conference women's soccer opener for both schools.
Senior Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) added Keene State's second goal with just over a minute to play in the first half to make it a 2-0 game at the intermission, and classmate Kara Pavlidis (Lee, N.H.) rounded out the scoring with her first of the season midway through the second half. Keene State improves to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the LEC, while PSU slips to 1-4 and 0-1.
PSU managed just five shots in the contest, four by junior Emily Bell (Derry, N.H.). KSC junior Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) made four saves in the Owls' goal to post her second shutout of the season.
With the game scoreless midway through the first half, PSU freshman keeper Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) made a save on an Owls' corner kick, but Kenyon was there to knock in the loose ball for her third goal of the season. Berthiaume made it a two-goal game with a beautiful shot from the top of the box that found the top right corner, her fourth of the season.
Pavlidis scored her second-half goal for the Owls on a corner kick, converting the shot was an assist from senior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.).
Schmidt finished with 11 saves in the Panther goal.
Plymouth State continues its four-game home stand on Wednesday, hosting Worcester State University at 6:00 p.m. at Panther Field. Keene State is also in action on Wednesday, visiting Johnson & Wales for a 6:30 p.m. kick-off.
