Crawford scores twice to lift Panthers to victory
PYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Emily Crawford (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored a pair of goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Daniel Webster College in the season opener for both schools at Arold Field.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Evans (Knoxville, Iowa) had a busy day in the Eagles net, finishing with 16 saves as the Panthers pelted her with 38 shots on the afternoon.
Evans kept PSU off the scoreboard in the first half despite 20 shots by the home team. Crawford broke through for the Panthers in the first 30 seconds of the second half with her first of the day, with an assist from sophomore Kate Dasey (Concord, N.H.). Crawford doubled the Panther lead seven minutes later with help from freshman Sabrina Sweeney (Raymond, N.H.)
PSU pulled away as sophomore Louisa Noble (Benton, N.H.) scored on the shot to the top right corner with an assist from freshman Jenna O'Malley (Methuen, Mass.) a little more than a minute later, and senior Leah Swanson (Atkinson, N.H.) rounded out the scoring for PSU in the 77th minute.
Plymouth State, 1-0, will be home again Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff against Salem State University. Daniel Webster returns home to host Anna Maria in its home opener Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
