Swanson and Crawford collect goals for Panthers
PYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) scored her first two goals of the season Saturday afternoon as Keene State College defeated Plymouth State University, 4-2, in Little East Conference women's soccer action at Arold Field.
The Panthers dropped their second straight contest to fall to 3-3 on the season (0-2 in LEC games), while the Owls won their fourth in a row to improve to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Keene State scored twice in the first half in a five-minute span to open up a 2-0 lead. Summers knocked in her first goal at 24:08, and freshman Patricia Norton (Hampton, Conn.) followed with a score at 28:53, assisted by junior Sierra Trzepacz (Enfield, Conn).
Plymouth State got on the scoreboard just two minutes into the second half, with senior Leah Swanson (Atkinson, N.H.) converting a ball from sophomore Adrianna Kippenberger (Wilmington, Mass.) to cut the deficit in half. Summers countered for Keene State five minutes later with her second of the game, restoring KSC's two-goal advantage, and sophomore Taylor Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) stretched the lead to 4-1 less than two minutes after that.
Junior Emily Crawford (Albuquerque, N.M.) notched an unassisted goal for PSU with 16 minutes remaining to round out the scoring.
Keene State finished with a 28-8 advantage in shots. Junior keeper Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) made 15 saves in the PSU goal while junior Danielle Warhall (Spofford, N.H.) stopped one shot in the Owl goal.
Plymouth State plays again on Tuesday with a non-conference match-up at Lyndon State (4:00 p.m.), while returns home to host Middlebury College Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
