Acevedo chosen as Defensive Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A freshman defender on the Plymouth State University women's soccer team was among those honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) as the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday.
Ashley Acevedo (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) was selected as the LEC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers to a win in their only contest.
Acevedo helped anchor a Plymouth State defense that recorded a third-straight shutout win to open the season, blanking Roger Williams University, 1-0, on Saturday. The Panther defense was able to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard despite being outshot by a 20-13 margin and losing the corner kick battle 9-0.
PSU's three straight wins without allowing a goal is the longest such streak to open a season since the 1993 team started 4-0 with four straight shutouts. More recently, the 2016 team was unbeaten through its first seven games (5-0-2), without allowing a goal in the first five and six-of-seven.
Plymouth State continues a three-game road trip on Tuesday (Sept. 11) with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Southern Vermont College.
