NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Plymouth State College gave Southern Connecticut State University all it could handle Saturday but the host Owls came away with a 158-138 victory in women's swimming and diving. The loss drops PSC back to the .500 mark at 2-2 overall, while Southern Conn. improves to 9-2.
Plymouth State was led by juniors Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, MA) and Sarah Lagasse (Haverhill, MA), who won two events apiece. Buckley won both the 50-yard freestyle (26.39) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.00), giving her 10 individual freestyle victories in PSC's four dual meets this season. Lagasse was the winner of the one-meter diving (200.00) and three-meter diving (204.35) events, giving her nine diving victories this season.
Lagasse led PSC to a 1-2-3 finish in both diving events, with sophomore Chrissy Sullivan (Billerica, MA) and junior Sue Lassonde (Concord, NH) finishing second and third on both boards.
The other individual winners for the Panthers were freshman Allison Bregy (Camden, ME), who finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.65, and Christa Smith (North Yarmouth, ME), who captured the 200 backstroke in 2:26.25.
PSC wraps up competition for the semester with a home meet next Saturday (Dec. 12) against Eastern Connecticut at the P.S.C. Natatorium (1:00 p.m.).
