PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's swimming & diving team posted some of their best times of the season Wednesday night, but dropped the final dual meet of the season to the Keene State Owls, 168-128.
The Panthers wrap up the dual meet season with a 7-3 overall record under eighth-year head coach Al Switzer, while Keene State improved to 19-0. PSC now looks to its most important meet of the season, the Division III New England Championships on Feb. 20-22 at Bowdoin College.
The Panthers got three individual victories from junior Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, MA) and two others from classmate Sarah Lagasse (Haverhill, MA). Buckley won the three shortest freestyle events, registering her fastest time of the season in the 50 (25.59) and 100 (55.44) and finishing just .04 off her best in the 200 (2:01.45). Buckley captured a team-high 23 individual victories in the dual meets, mostly in sprint freestyle events.
Lagasse captured both the one and three-meter diving events against Keene, setting a school record on the low board (223.70). She scored marks of sixes on one of her new dives, a back one-and-a-half pike, and earned scores of sevens on her inward one-and-a-half tuck. Lagasse captured 21 individual victories this season, including two in the 50 yard breaststroke.
Senior captain Christa Smith (North Yarmouth, ME) wrapped up the dual meet season with a school record of her own, finishing second in the 1,000 free in 11:43.90. Freshman Allison Bregy (Camden, ME) brought home PSC's other first place finish with an impressive victory in the 200 butterfly (2:22.56).
Coach Switzer was also pleased with the time of the winning 400 yard freestyle relay squad. The team of Sandra Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH), Buckley, Smith and Bregy finished first in a season-best 3:57.80.
