BRUNSWICK, Maine - The senior captain on the Plymouth State College women's swimming and diving team continues to excel at the New England Division III Women's Championships, hosted by Bowdoin College.
Senior Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, Mass.), who placed seventh in the 50 yard freestyle Friday night, brought home ninth place Saturday night in the 200 yard freestyle. She finished 11th in the morning preliminaries with a time of 2:01.44, and came back with a time of 2:00.11 in the finals to place ninth. Both times were slightly off her school record of 1:58.93, set in 1999.
In addition, Buckley was a member of PSC's 800-yard freestyle relay team that took 10th place in school-record setting time. The group of seniors Sandy Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH) and Buckley and freshmen Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) and Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) placed 10th with a time of 8:18.86, just ahead of the PSC standard of 8:19.75 set last season.
PSC's performance after two days had the Panthers in 17th place overall and first among state schools.
The three-day meet concludes Sunday with the final eight events, including the 100-yard freestyle, an event in which Buckley was undefeated in this season.
