Panthers place third at LEC Championships
BOSTON, Mass. - Plymouth State College brought home third place Saturday in the first annual Little East Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted at UMass Boston.
Keene State won the overall team title, scoring 521.5 points. Runner-up UMass Dartmouth finished with 429 points, followed by PSC with 242, Eastern Connecticut with 191.5, and Western Connecticut with 99.
Junior Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) was the top swimmer for PSC, finishing with a pair of second-place finishes and a third place. She was runner-up in the 200 yard butterfly (2:25.96) and 200 yard individual medley (2:25.07), and third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.59).
Junior Amy Bernier (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) also turned in strong performances for the Panthers. Bernier placed third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.46), fifth in the 100 free (59.54), and sixth in the 50 free (27.81). Scarborough captured third place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.85) and fourth in the 200 back (2:29.11), and sixth in the 100 fly (1:08.97).
Plymouth State had three of the top five divers in the conference. Freshman Kristin Kearins (Andover, Mass.) placed second in the three-meter diving (192.90) and third in the one-meter (187.30), classmate Jen Crescenzi (Killingworth, Conn.) was fourth on both boards (186.78 on one-meter, 168.05 on three-meter) and freshman Becky Huntington (Hampstead, N.H.) was fifth in both events (165.15 on one-meter, 146.75 on three-meter).
PSC, 1-2, returns to dual meet action on Saturday, Dec. 9th, with a home meet against Eastern Connecticut, the last competition of the semester.
