PSC completes semester with win over Norwich
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College had too much depth for visiting Norwich University Saturday, and the Panthers went on to capture a 131.5 - 70.5 victory over the Cadets in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSC Natatorium.
PSC placed first in 10 of the 16 events to pull out the win over Norwich, which had defeated Plymouth State the last two seasons. The Panthers are now 3-1 on the season, matching last year's win total, when they finished 3-6 in dual meets.
Sophomores Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) and Kaitlyn Koch (Jeffersonville, Vt.) led the effort for the Panthers, winning two individual swimming events apiece. Scarborough brought home first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.12) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.22), and Koch was the first finisher in the 50 back (34.30) and 100 free (1:02.11).
Seniors Amy Bernier (Bristol, Conn.) and Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine) and freshman Ann Winters (Chester, N.H.) each won one individual swimming event. Bernier captured the 200 free (2:12.60), Bregy took the 500 free (5:50.71) and Winters won the grueling 1000 free (12:43.37). Sophomore Krit Kearins (Andover, Mass.) captured both the one-meter and three-meter diving events (218.10 and 222.25, respectively). She has swept the diving in PSC's last three dual meets.
Senior Kelly Chiffer (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the top swimmer for Norwich, placing first in the 50 breaststroke (33.95) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.32) as well as the 100 individual medley (1:07.42).
The Panthers now take a break for final exams and the holidays. PSC is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5th, in the annual alumni meet (1:00 p.m.). The next competition is Wednesday, Jan. 9th, at the PSC Natatorium against Bentley College (6:30 p.m.).
