BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - In a meet that came down to the final event, the Plymouth State College women's swimming and diving team edged Bridgewater State College Saturday afternoon, 153-140, at BSC's Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.
The Panthers captured 10 of the 16 events, and clinched the meet with a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay. PSC improves to 4-2 on the season, while BSC dropped to 3-3.
The Panthers were led by their junior combination of Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, NH), Annabelle Winters (Chester, NH) and Becky Huntington (Hampstead, NH). Scarborough and Winters each captured three swimming events, while Huntington won both the one meter and three meter diving competitions.
Scarborough brought home first place in the 200 yard butterfly (2:22.26), 200 yard backstroke (2:35.50) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.12), and Winters was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.81), the 500 yard freestyle (5:46.81) and 200 yard individual medley (2:29.16). Huntington won the one-meter diving with a score of 208.25 and the three-meter diving with a score of 216.50.
The Panthers also got a win from freshman Tessa Ferrario (Waterbury, Vt.) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:20.51).
BSC seniors Sarah Provencher (Woonsocket, RI) and Jessica Busch (South Attleboro, MA) were the Bears' top swimmers on the afternoon. Busch captured first place in the 100 backstroke (1:06.73), the 50 freestyle (25.69) and the 100 freestyle events (56.40), while Provencher took first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.00) and the 200 breaststroke (2:45.94)
PSC returns home to host St. Joseph's College (Conn.) next Saturday (Jan. 25) at the PSC Natatorium (1 p.m.).
