Scarborough paces PSC past St. Joe

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, NH) captured three individual events and swam on a winning relay team Saturday as Plymouth State College defeated St. Joseph College (Conn.), 152-120, in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSC Natatorium.

Scarborough continued her fine season with victories in the 100-yard butterfly (with a time of 1:04.18), 100-yard backstroke (1:06.75) and 50-yard butterfly (30.56), swimming her best times of the season in all three events.

The Panthers also got two individual wins apiece from freshman Tessa Ferrario (Waterbury, Vt.) and junior Krit Kearins (Andover, Mass.). Ferrario brought home first place in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:10.47) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.39), both personal-best times, and Kearins finished first in the one-meter diving (212.55) and three-meter diving (season-high score of 229.90).

Freshman Pam Shea (Cheshire, Conn.) also placed first for PSC in the 50 backstroke (33.68), and junior Caitlin O'Connor (Rochester, N.H.) took the 100 freestyle (59.22 seconds).

O'Connor, Scarborough, Ferrario and Shea also finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:11.08.

The visiting Blue Jays were led by sophomore Juliette Byrnes (Dedham, Mass.), who won the 200-yard free (2:05.43) and the 500-yard free (5:42.74). Senior Allison Marinau (Meriden, Conn.) captured the 50 breaststroke (37.59), senior Adrienne Payne (Waterford, Conn.) took the 50 free (27.21) and freshman Stephanie Taylor (Topsham, Maine) was the winner of the 200 individual medley (2:32.42).

Plymouth State has won two in a row to improve to 5-2 on the season, while St. Joseph drops to 3-5. PSC is back in action next Saturday with the final home meet of the season against UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.).
