Panthers fall to UMass Dartmouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth collected victories in nine individual events and both relays Saturday en route to a 160.5-134.5 victory over Plymouth State College in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSC Natatorium.

Freshmen Erika Szivos (Gardner, Mass.) and Caitlin Magura (Milton, Conn.) and junior Tara Keefe (Medford, Mass.) led the Corsairs with two individual wins each. Szivos captured the 200-yard freestyle (in a time of 2:09.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.71), Magura tied for first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.89) and won the 100-yard freestyle (59.18), and Keefe swept the one-meter diving (with a score of 208.90) and three-meter diving (228.90) events.

Plymouth State also had two swimmers win two events apiece. Junior Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) tied for first in the 100-yard butterfly (season-best 1:03.89) and captured the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.61), and freshman Tessa Ferrario (Waterbury, Vt.) brought home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.78) and 100-yard individual medley (season-best 1:09.13).

The Panthers also got solid victories from junior Annabelle Winters (Chester, N.H.) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:47.13) and senior Caitlin O'Connor (Rochester, N.H.) in the 50-yard freestyle (27.81 seconds).

Other UMD winners included junior Renee Gaudette (Pembroke, Mass.) in the 50-yard backstroke (32.69), freshman Seanna McRae (Taunton, Mass.) in the 50-yard breaststroke, and junior Amy Stucchi (Westboro, Mass.) in the 50-yard butterfly.

Plymouth State, 5-3 overall, returns to action Wednesday with a dual meet at Granite State rival Keene State (6:00 p.m.). UMD, 8-4 overall, returns home to host Colby-Sawyer and St. Joseph's in a tri-meet next Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
