Wellesley dunks PSU Womens Swimming & Diving in home opener
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Wellesley College brought home first place in 14 of the 16 events Saturday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University in a women's swimming and diving season meet, 190-105, at the PSU Natatorium.
Junior Nina Johnson (Birmingham, Ala.) led the visitors with three individual event victories. She won the 50-yard and 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Three other Wellesley competitors won two events apiece; sophomore Becky Hanna (Honk Kong) took the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Claire Marana captured the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle, and Courtney Jacobs (Wellesley, Mass.) won the one-meter and three-meter diving.
Freshman Amanda Branch (Grey, Maine) won the only individual event for Plymouth State, touching first in the 100-yard butterfly. Two Panthers collected two second-place finishes apiece -- sophomore Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, Cal.) in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly, and junior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) placed second in both diving events.
Wellesley won the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, and PSU took the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
PSU, 0-1, is back in action next Saturday with a dual meet at Regis College (1:00 p.m.)
