PSU Womens Swimming & Diving cruises past Salem State
SALEM, Mass. - The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team used solid depth to win 13 of the 16 events Wednesday evening en route to a 149-90 victory over Salem State College in a non-conference dual meet.
Seven different Panthers won at least one individual event, with four women capturing two wins apiece. The outcome improves PSU's record to 2-1.
Leading the way for Plymouth State were juniors Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) and Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) and freshmen Trista Garrity (Saco, Maine) and Amanda Branch (Grey, Maine). Anton touched first in the 50-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle, while DeStefano placed first in the one- and three-meter diving. Garrity was the winner of the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle, and Branch finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley.
Also collecting individual wins for PSU were junior Katie Bouffard (Essex Jct., Vt.) in the 50-yard breaststroke, junior Kristen Childs (Madbury, N.H.) in the 100-yard breaststroke, and sophomore Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, N.C.) in the 50-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Nathalie Echeverri (Amherst, Mass.) led the Viking with victories in the 200 free and 50 free, and Rachel Marciniak (East Hampton, Mass.) captured the 100-yard backstroke.
PSU is right back in action this Saturday (Dec. 3) with the annual Little East Conference Championship meet, hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
