Plymouth State finishes fourth at LEC Womens Swimming & Diving Meet
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Plymouth State University finished in fourth place Saturday at the annual Little East Conference women's swimming and diving championship meet, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center pool.
UMD captured its second straight LEC title, winning 12 of the 16 events in the one-day meet and finishing 117 points ahead of runner-up Keene State. UMD scored 476, while Keene State had 359, followed by Western Connecticut (271), Plymouth State (245) and Eastern Connecticut (179).
Junior captain Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) led the Panther effort, placing third in three individual events. She finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.53), the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.60) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.95), while also swimming the leadoff leg of PSU's third-place 200-yard medley relay team.
Junior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) also turned in a strong performance for the Panthers. She placed second in the three-meter diving event with a score of 206.20, and she took fourth in the one-meter diving with a score of 179.90.
Sophomore Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.) finished in fourth place in two individual events in season-best times - the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.28) and 500-yard freestyle (5:47.84). Classmate Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, N.C.) also collected a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (2:30.61) and 100-yard butterfly (1:07.38). DiGiacomo and Osborne were both on PSU's third-place 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams.
PSU wraps up competition for the semester next Saturday (Dec. 10) with a dual meet at Westfield State (1:00 p.m.)
