PSU Women’s Swimming & Diving cruises past Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team won its third meet of the season Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 148-119 victory over Saint Joseph College (Conn.)

The visiting Panthers captured all 16 events in the meet. Sophomore Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.) led PSU, winning three individual swimming events -- the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.69), the 50-yard freestyle (28.06), and the 100-yard freestyle (58.67). She was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

Junior Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) and sophomore Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, N.C.) were triple winners for the Panthers, Anton winning the 1000-yard freestyle (11:55.71) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.90) and anchoring the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team; and Osborne taking the 50-yard butterfly (29.78), the 100-yard individual medley (1:09.40) and competing on the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

Junior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) captured both diving events for the seventh time in eight dual meets this season. She set a personal record in the one-meter events (six dives), scoring 238.55 points, while also winning the one-meter voluntary (five dives) with a score of 178.50.

PSU's other individual event winners were freshman Jessie Maihos (Salem, N.H.) in the 50-yard backstroke (34.19); junior Katie Bouffard (Essex Jct., Vt.) in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.67); senior Kristen Mulcahey (Pawtucket, R.I.) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.40); junior Kristen Childs (Madbury, N.H.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.10); and freshman Amanda Branch (Grey, Maine) in the 500-yard freestyle (6:09.75).

Plymouth State returns to competition next Saturday at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.), before returning home to host Simmons on Saturday Feb., 4, in the final home meet of the season.
