PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University swimming and diving team captured 10 out of the 16 events Saturday afternoon to win its last dual meet of the season, 155-133, over Simmons College, at the PSU Natatorium.
Sophomore Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, N.C.) was a triple winner for PSU, while juniors Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) and Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) won two events each. They helped the Panthers complete the dual meet season with a 4-6 record.
Osborne placed first in 50-yard freestyle (with a time of 26.64 seconds), 100-yard freestyle (58.44) and 50-yard butterfly (29.41), while Anton touched the wall first in the 50-yard backstroke (31.49) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.33). DeStefano finished first in both diving events for the eighth time in 10 dual meets this season. She set a personal record in the one-meter event, scoring 240.10 points, while also winning the three-meter with a score of 226.35.
Also collecting wins for Plymouth State were junior Katie Bouffard (Essex Jct., Vt.) in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.39) and sophomore Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.43). The quartet of Anton, Bouffard, Osborne and DiGiacomo also brought home first place in the 200-yard medley relay.
Leading Simmons College was freshman Keri-Ann Arsenault (Chester, N.H.), who won three individual events. She finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:23.73) and 500- and 1000-yard freestyle (5:30.37 and 11:20.13 respectively). Freshman Julia Morrison (West Hartford, Conn.) also took the 200 fly (2:45.08), and junior Rachel Boothby (Nashua, N.H.) captured the 200 breaststroke (2:50.28).
The next competition will be the New England Championships. The diving will be held at UMass Dartmouth next Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12, while the swimming will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb.17-19, at Western New England College in Springfield, Mass.
