PSU Women’s Swimmers in 15th place after second day at New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Four Plymouth State University swimmers posted mid-level individual finishes and the Panthers as a team are in 15th place out of 22 schools after the second day at the New England Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Western New England College.

            The Panthers have scored 159 points in the three-day event.  Bentley leads the standings (with 695.5 points), with UMass Dartmouth second (382) and Bridgewater State third (313).  PSU is just behind 14th-place Eastern Connecticut (174.5) and well ahead of 16th-place Western New England (87).

            Junior Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) registered the top individual finish for Plymouth State, placing 10th in the 100-yard backstroke (one minute, 6.14 seconds).  Sophomore Lindsay Osborne (Oak Ridge, N.C.) placed 12th in the 50-yard butterfly (season-best 29.31 seconds), sophomore Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.) finished 13th in the 200-yard freestyle (career-best time of 2:05.86), and freshman Amanda Branch (Grey, Maine) was 15th in the 400-yard individual medley (personal best 5:24.64).

            The Panthers also placed 11th in both relay events on Saturday.  The team of Anton, junior Katie Bouffard (Essex Jct., Vt.), Osborne and freshman Trista Garrity (Saco, Maine) were 11th in the 200-yard medley relay (2:02.54), and the group of DiGiacomo, Garrity, Anton and Branch took 11th in the 800-yard free relay (8:44.54).

            The competition wraps up on Sunday, with preliminaries in the afternoon and finals in the evening.  PSU finished 11th out of 22 teams last year with 163 points.
