NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team posted its highest finish ever at the Little East Conference Championships meet on Saturday, finishing runner-up in the annual five-team event.

Keene State captured its fourth LEC title overall and first since 2002, scoring 553 points in the 16 events. PSU (263 points) edged Eastern Connecticut (255) for second place, while two-time defending champion UMass Dartmouth (235) slipped to fourth and Western Connecticut (180) was fifth. Plymouth State's previous high finish was three straight third-place results from 2000-02, the first three years of the meet.

The top Panther performances came on the diving board, where senior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) captured both the one- and three-meter titles. DeStefano (left) scored 180.75 points to win the one-meter event, and 210.35 to capture the three-meter event.

The top PSU swimming performance was in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of junior Christina DiGiacomo (Meriden, Conn.), freshman Caitlin Little (Scituate, Mass.), sophomore Trista Garrity (Saco, Maine), and freshman Erika Young (Lynnfield, Mass.) brought home second place with a time of four minutes, 6.53 seconds.

Senior captain Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine), freshman Tracey Posnick (Sharon, Mass.) and Little had the best finishes for PSU in individual swimming events. Anton placed third and fourth in the 200- and 100-yard backstroke races, respectively, and she took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. Posnick placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle and fourth in the 400-yard individual medley, the two most-grueling events, and Little touched fourth in the 50-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100 fly.

The Panthers return to dual meet action next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. start against Westfield State at the PSU Natatorium.
