WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team opened the season Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the 12th annual Betty Spears Relays, hosted by Wellesley College.
Wellesley won every event en route to a team victory with 294 points. Westfield State College took second with 250 points while Mount Holyoke College (126 points) and Plymouth State (111 points) followed.
The Panthers finished runner-up in three events. The quartet of freshman Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury, Conn.), seniors Kaitlyn Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.) and Amanda Branch (Gray, Maine) and freshman Brittanie Bradley (Scarborough, Maine) took second in the 200 yard butterfly/breaststroke relay, the trio of sophomore Lindsay Graham (Framingham, Mass.), junior Tracey Posnick (Sharon, Mass.) and Branch placed second in the 300 yard butterfly relay, and the team of Posnick and freshmen Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) and Brittany Shortell (Ansonia, Conn.) finished second in the 1500 yard freestyle relay.
Five other Panther teams took third in their events.
Plymouth State opens the dual meet portion of the schedule next Saturday with a return visit to Wellesley College (1:00 p.m.)
