WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Wellesley College women's swimming and diving team won every event Saturday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University, 166-114, at Chandler Pool. It was the first dual meet of the season for both teams.
Junior Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, Mass.) won four events to lead the Blue. She won three individual events, the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.22), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.66) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.35), after opening the meet taking the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay alongside Stephanie Welch (Dedham, Mass.), Erika Buckle (Boxborough, Mass.) and Dana Dutton (Anacortes, Wash.).
PSU was led by freshmen Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.), who had three solid second-place finishes against the strong Wellesley squad. She was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (57.37 seconds), the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.86) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.96).
Three other Panther swimmers finish second in an individual race, freshman Brittanie Bradley (Scarborough, Maine) in the 100-breast, senior Amanda Branch (Gray, Maine) in the 200-fly, and junior Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, Mass.) in the 200-back. Freshman Nora Regan (West Hartford, Conn.) captured second place in both diving events with a score of 164.90 in the 1-meter and 133.90 on the 3-meter board.
Wellesley returns to the pool on Wednesday hosting a 7:00pm dual meet against conference-rival MIT. Plymouth State is back in action on Saturday, November 22, hosting Regis in the home opener at 1:00 p.m.
