NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team finished in fifth place Saturday at the 2008 Little East Conference championships, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Keene State College swam away with its third straight championship, scoring 508 points in the one-day meet. Eastern Connecticut State University was runner-up with 308 points, and Western Connecticut State University was third with 266. The host UMass Dartmouth scored 224 points, barely edging PSU, which had 219 points, for fourth place.
Freshman Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H./Vermont Academy) had the top performances for the Panthers with three individual finishes in the top six. Brodeur (right) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.97, fourth in the 100-yard free (57.80 seconds) and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.44).
Junior Tracey Posnick (Sharon, Mass.) also had some strong swims for PSU, as she placed fifth in both the 1000-yard freestyle (11:58.66) and the 400-yard individual medley (5:13.97). Freshman Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury, Conn.) contributed a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard free (27.59 seconds) and junior Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, Mass.) was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.43).
Freshman Nora Regan (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) was PSU's top finisher in the diving, taking fifth in the three-meter event (144.35 points).
PSU returns home to host Westfield State at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday (Dec. 13) in the final meet of the first semester.
