PSU Women’s Swimmers place fourth at Regis Inv.
Brodeur, Foley, and Samaro post top Panther swims
WESTON, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women’s swimming and diving team placed fourth out of six schools Saturday afternoon at the annual Regis College Invitational.
Mount Holyoke College (813 points) won the event, while the University of New England (665) was second and Simmons College (553) third. PSU (405) was fourth, followed by Regis (253) and Husson University (185).
The Panthers were led by a group of four swimmers who combined for 10 top-six finishes in individual events and a third-place in a relay race. Junior Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) was strong in three events, twice finishing in second place, the 100-yard butterfly in one minute, 6.20 seconds and the 100 free in 58.43 seconds, and also capturing third in the 50 fly in 29.69 seconds. Freshman Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) was also a top finisher in three events, placing second in the 500 free (5:43.58), third in the 200 free (2:10.96) and sixth in the 50 free (27.66 seconds).
Sophomore Jennifer Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) finished in the top three in a pair of individual events, taking second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.14) and third in the 100 I.M. (1:09.06). Junior Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury, Conn.) finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:08.05) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:00.62).
The Panther foursome, Brodeur, Foley, Samaro and Gondek, combined for a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Panthers, 1-0, will be back in the pool on Sunday, Nov. 21, with a dual meet at Colby-Sawyer College, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
