PSU Women’s Swimming/Diving drops two at tri-meet

Panthers fall to Colby-Sawyer and Elms

            NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team went 0-2 in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon at Colby-Sawyer College, falling to the host Chargers, 77-63, and to Elms College, 72-65.

            The Panthers were led by senior Nicole Brodeur, who finished in the top two in three individual events.  She took first place in the 200-yard butterfly in two minutes, 35.25 seconds, and finished runner-up in the 100-yard free (59.46 seconds) and 50-yard butterfly (29.23).

            PSU also got strong swims from senior Lara Gruner and sophomore Delia Foley. Gruner captured first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:09.62, and Foley placed second in the 200-yard free (2:10.39) and third in the 500-yard free (5:52.77).

            Junior Amy Mulhern and senior Brittney Gondek gave PSU a 2-3 finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.43 and 1:09.03, respectively) and senior Brittany Shortell contributed a third place in the 500 free (6:09.96).

            Plymouth State finished 1-2 in both diving events, with freshman Kristen Windish posting the top scores on both boards and sophomore Shannon Rogers finishing  second.

            The Panthers (0-2) will go back into training until competing at the Little East Conference Championships meet on Saturday, Dec. 3, at UMass Dartmouth.
