Seven Panthers score points in individual events
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team finished in seventh place out of eight schools Saturday at the Little East Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
The Panthers finished with 60 points, ahead of Rhode Island College (44). Keene State College defended its title, scoring 588 points, followed by Eastern Connecticut State University (274), Western Connecticut State University (211), Westfield State University (174), UMass Dartmouth (160) and Bridgewater State University (94).
The top swims for PSU were by senior Nicole Brodeur, who placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.97 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.48 seconds.
Senior Brittany Shortell was also ninth in the 1,650 free (21:06.02) for the Panthers; junior Amy Mulhern placed 10th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:31.19), and senior Brittanie Bradley took 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:50.58). Senior Brittney Gondek posted a pair of 12th-place finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke (1:07.22 and 2:26.80, respectively).
PSU had two competitors score points in the diving events; sophomore Shannon Rogers placed eighth in both the one- and three-meter events, and freshman Kristen Windish was fifth on the one-meter board.
The Panthers will be back to dual meet action next Saturday in the final meet of the semester at Westfield State.
