Mulhern, Rogers win two events each for Panthers
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth won 11 of 16 events Saturday afternoon and defeated visiting Plymouth State University, 160.5-121.5, in a women's swimming and diving meet at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Sophomore Morgan Cooper won three events for the Corsairs, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.09, the 50-yard freestyle in 27.39 seconds, and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.04. Senior Meredith Maki and junior Maggie Conlon each won twice, with Maki taking the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:40.09 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:26.16, and Conlon winning the 50-yard backstroke in 31.44 seconds, and the 50-yard butterfly in 29.52 seconds.
The other Corsair winners were senior Kim Moore, who won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:49.83, and junior Lindsay Days, who took the 50 yard breaststroke in 36.27 seconds.
PSU was led by junior Amy Mulhern and sophomore Shannon Rogers, who won two individual events apiece. Mulhern was the top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.98 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.81, while also placing second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:31.85). Rogers captured both diving events with scores of 176.40 on the one-meter board, qualifying for the New England Championships, and 160.80 on the three-meter plank.
Senior Nicole Brodeur also took first place for PSU in the 100-yard free in 59.77 seconds and finished runner-up in the 200-yard free (2:10.85) and 50-yard fly (29.76).
The Corsairs won both relays, with the team of freshman Amanda Couture, Days, Conlon and freshman Leslie Martin taking the 200 yard medley relay in 2:04.59, and the group of Conlon, Cooper, Maki and Couture finishing first in the 400nyard freestyle relay in 4:03.45.
Both teams are now 4-6 in dual meets and will swim their final dual meet of the season next Saturday, UMD hosting Colby-Sawyer College and PSU hosting Simmons on Senior Day at the PSU Natatorium.
