Samaro and Foley record top finishes for Panthers
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team finished in eighth place Saturday at the annual Little East Conference championship meet, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Keene State College captured the championship with 630 points, well ahead of runner-up Eastern Connecticut State University (326). The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (187) took third, followed by Bridgewater State University (168), Westfield State University (111), Rhode Island College (100), Western Connecticut State University (49) and PSU (35).
Senior Jennifer Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) and junior Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) turned in the top finishes for PSU, accounting for all of PSU's points in individual events. Samaro scored in three different events, taking 10th in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of five minutes, 17.74 seconds, 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke in two minutes, 46.77 seconds, and 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke in one minute, 15.77 seconds. Foley captured an eighth place in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12 minutes, 1.60 seconds, and a 15th in the 500-yard free in 6:00.45.
Senior Amy Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.) also placed in the top 16 in three different events for the Panthers, as she was 13th in the 400-yard I.M. (5:28.36), 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:29.29), and 16th in the 100-yard back (1:08.49). Junior Jackie Viotto (Morristown, N.J.) was also 16th in the 1,000 free (13:14.62).
The Panthers will wrap up the first semester of competition next Saturday with a home meet against Westfield State University (1:00 p.m.)
