PSU Women’s Swimming/Diving falls to Westfield
Foley, Samaro win two events each for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Kirsten LaMotte (Amherst, Mass.) and sophomore Katie Sterpka (Barkhamsted, Conn.) won two events each Saturday afternoon to lead Westfield State University to a 151-99 victory over Plymouth State University in women's intercollegiate swimming and diving action at the PSU Natatorium.
LaMotte captured the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke races, while Sterpka won the one- and three-meter diving events. LaMotte was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Plymouth State had a pair of double winners as well. Junior Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) won a pair of freestyle events, finishing first in the 200 free in 2:09.18 and the 500 in 5:46.61. Senior Jennifer Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) captured victories for PSU in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:29.18, and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.00. Senior Amy Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.) took first place for the Panthers in the 100 back (1:07.19).
Mulhern and Foley were joined by freshman Kelly Merkle (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Nora Doherty (Dorchester, Mass.) on the winning 400 yard free relay team.
Plymouth State will take a break from competition for final exams and the holidays. The next meet for the Panthers is Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Bentley University.
