Simmons defeats PSU Women’s Swimming/Diving

Samaro wins two events for Panthers

            BOSTON, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season Sunday with a 166-97 loss to Simmons College at the Holmes Sports Center.

            The host Sharks celebrated Senior Day with victories in 13 of the meet's 16 events.  Simmons wraps up the regular season with an 8-5 dual meet record while the Panthers finish at 3-7.

            Leading the Sharks were senior Molly Bohannon (Deep River, Conn.) and freshman Maddy McDonald (Westwood, Mass.), who won three individual events apiece.  Bohannon captured the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle races as well as the 200-yard butterfly while McDonald was the winner of the three shortest freestyle events, the 50, 100 and 200.

            The Panthers were led by senior Jennifer Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic), who captured the 50-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard backstroke. Junior Shannon Rogers (Beverly, Mass.) also won the three-meter diving for PSU.

            Both teams will compete in the New England Swimming Championships on February 8-10 at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Jct., Vt.  The New England Diving Championships are Feb. 16-17 at Plymouth State.
