PSU Women’s Swimming/Diving splits tri-meet at Colby-Sawyer
Panthers down Elms but fall to host Chargers
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team had split results Saturday afternoon in tri-meet at Colby-Sawyer College, falling to the host Chargers, 178-112, while defeating Elms College, 182-85.
The Panthers won just two of the 16 events in the meet, but had numerous second and third-place finishes.
Leading the way for the Panthers was junior transfer Erin Campbell (Marshfield, Mass.), who captured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:16.04. Campbell was also second in both the 50 breaststroke (34.45 seconds) and the 100 I.M. (1:10.61). Senior Shannon Rogers (Beverly, Mass.) took first place in the three-meter diving with a score of 171.75 points after finishing runner-up on the one-meter board (175.20).
Senior Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Jessie Blake (Portland, Maine) each posted a pair of second-place finishes. Foley was runner-up in the 500-yard free (5:52.30) and 1000-yard free (12:05.33) while Blake placed second in the 50-yard butterfly (30.35 seconds) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.50).
Junior Nora Doherty (Dorchester, Mass.) led a group of Panthers who posted two third-place finishes, placing third in the 50-yard backstroke (32.61 seconds) and 100-yard backstroke (1:09.51). Freshman Meaghan Doherty (Charlestown, Mass.) was third for PSU in the 50 breast (36.60) and 100 breast (1:20.19) and freshman Katia Wyman (Portsmouth, N.H.) was third in the 500 free (6:07.56) and 1,000 free (12:38.43).
The Panthers will be at the PSU Natatorium next Saturday for the home opener against the University of New England (1:00 p.m.)
