Foley, Carberry win two events each for Panthers

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University captured 12 of the 16 events Saturday afternoon, defeating Plymouth State University, 155-123, in a women's swimming and diving meet at the Ely Hall pool.

The Panthers were led by senior Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, Pa.), who captured two individual events each.

Foley captured the two distance freestyle races, winning the 1,000-yard free in 12 minutes, 0.68 seconds, and she finished first in the 500-yard free in 5:51.73.  Carberry touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke, completing the four laps in 1:06.04, and she won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:30.65. Carberry lowered her season-best time in both races.

After a break for final exams and the holidays, the Panthers will compete again on Friday, Jan. 3, against Bentley University in a dual meet at the PSU Natatorium.
