Carberry a triple-winner for Panthers; Wyman, Farmer take two events each
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University won nine of the 14 events Saturday afternoon en route to a 115-82 victory over Rhode Island College in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSU Natatorium.
Senior Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, Pa.) led the Panthers with three individual victories and a leg in a winning relay race; she won the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 10.44 seconds; the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.75, and the 50-yard butterfly in 30.39 seconds.
Sophomore Katia Wyman (Portsmouth, N.H.) and freshman Megan Farmer (Plainville, Conn.) also won two events each for the Panthers. Wyman took the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:22.98 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:31.42, while Farmer finished first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 32.85 seconds and the 100-yard free in 1:01.47.
Carberry and Farmer were also joined by senior Nora Doherty (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshman Addie Schumaker (Haymarket, Va.) on the winning 200-yard medley relay team. PSU took the final event, the 400-yard free relay race, with the team of senior Jess Bierschied (Portsmouth, N.H.), freshmen Kayli Miles (Strafford, N.H.) and Julia Donahue (Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore Meaghan Doherty (Charlestown, Mass.)
The Anchorwomen were led by freshman Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, R.I.), who was a triple winner for the visitors. Curran touched the wall first in the 50-yard free (27.71 seconds) and the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke (34.47 and 1:16.02, respectively). Freshman Taylor Ryan (Warwick, R.I.) also captured the 100-yard butterfly in 1J6.87 and junior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, R.I.) was first in the 500-yard free in 5:56.02.
PSU (1-3) returns to action on next Saturday, Jan. 17, with a dual meet at Saint Joseph University (Conn.), while RIC (1-2) swims again next Saturday at Husson University.
