DeGrazia receives top honor, Panther relay team also recognized
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the outstanding freshmen on the Plymouth State University women's swimming & diving team was honored Monday by the Little East Conference (LEC) for her performances in a pair of Panther swim meets last week.
Freshman Deanne DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) was named LEC Women's Swimmer of the Week after capturing five individual events combined in two Panther team victories last week. DeGrazia was also named LEC Rookie of the Week once last month.
A rookie freestyler, DeGrazia won three events last Monday in PSU's win over Western Connecticut State University -- the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.23, the 50 free with a time of 28.15 seconds, and the 500 free in 5:56. 97. She came back on Friday with two triumphs in PSU's victory over UMass Dartmouth, winning the 200-yard free in 2:08.89, and the 500-yard free in 5:58.65. She was third in the 50 free in 28.24 seconds.
DeGrazia also anchored PSU's 200-yard medley relay team, following backstroker Julia West (Wiscasset, Maine), breaststroker Addie Schumaker (Haymarket, Va.) and butterflyer Julia Mazza (Belchertown, Mass.), which took first place in both meets and was named LEC Relay Team of the Week.
PSU finished the dual meets with a 7-3 record, the best team mark since going 7-2 in 2009-10. The Panthers will compete in the LEC Championship meet this Saturday at UMass Dartmouth, and will compete in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on Feb. 12-14 at the University of Rhode Island.
