Harrington and Allaire named Rookies of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of freshmen on the Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team were recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in a Panther victory last week.
Freshman Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week, and classmate Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was tabbed as LEC Rookie Diver of the Week. They were standouts in PSU's 147-131 victory over Coby-Sawyer College in the home opener last Friday.
A freshman freestyler, Harrington captured first place in the 50-yard free in 26.45 seconds, and took second place in the 200-yard free (2:09.48) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.84). She also swam the lead-off leg of PSU's winning 400-yard free relay (4:00.24).
A freshman diver, Allaire was the winner in both diving events, scoring 193.25 points to take the one-meter event and 185.60 on the three-meter board. Her 18 points in the two diving events proved to be the difference in the meet scoring.
The Panthers, 1-0, will be back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 19, in a tri-meet with Western New England University at Eastern Connecticut State University, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
